My name is Barbara Graver. I started Writing on the Spectrum to share my writing and a bit of my journey as a neurodivergent writer.
My Story
Writing is my way of processing—and has been for most of my life—but full length projects were always a challenge.
Manuscripts and short stories piled up on my computer, but none of my novels ever came out “right.”
I found structure and character arcs and other aspects of the craft difficult. Workshops and critique groups and how-to-write books didn’t help.
Then, in 2022, I was diagnosed with autism. I started to learn about neurodiversity and how it affected my writing. Three years later, a diagnosis of ADHD provided even more information.
Long-form writing is a challenge for me but I love doing it. I started this newsletter to share my process, and what I’m learning along the way.

The Spirit Dream
📖 Blurb | I was always different. Sensitive. Passionate. Clueless. People didn’t understand me, and I didn't understand myself. I made mistake after mistake. I turned myself inside out trying to live a life that didn’t suit me. When that life imploded, an unusual dream set me on a spiritual path. But the spiritual systems and traditions that worked for others never worked for me. The Spirit Dream is the story of my journey to a late-diagnosis of autism and ADHD, and the dreams, synchronicities, and creative writing that guided me along my way.
The Spirit Dream is almost finished. Please sign up for my newsletter to get publication updates.
